Coming  at  You  From  the

The Bull Sheet

February 2008 -  Bull Run Voiture 380  -  Chef de Gare  -  Jim Kampanos

February 2008 - The Promenade is scheduled for Friday, February 29 at Post 114

I apologize for the lateness of my issue of the Bull Sheet. It is no fault of the correspondant, but my delay in

giving him the information. February has been extremely busy for me at home and at my Post and has taken

much of my energy. I have received much correspondence from Grande du Virginia concerning upcoming

events as well as getting ready for the Conference in March for Department of Virginia and the Cheminot for

Grande du Virginia. Please go to the Grande website and get updated information for the Cheminot and the

Nationale meeting. (http://www.grandduvirginia.org/ - Correspondant)

I want to thank fellow voyageur Eddie Dentz in preparing the revised Resolution that is being presented to

the Grande to offset the Resolution submitted by Nationale concerning the membership of the 40 & 8. For

those of you that were unable to attend the January Promenade missed my speech concerning Eddie and what he has meant to me personally and what he has meant to our organizations. I will place in writing here that Eddie has been one of three Legionnaires that has molded my view of our responsibilities as Legionnaires. His dedication and actions have spoke volumes that have allowed many of us to reach out to others and involve them in our organizations. If we built an organizational chart or a family tree for the American Legion Department of Virginia and the 40 & 8 Grande du Virginia with Eddie at the top, we would find not only many great leaders in that tree, but thousands of branches for the people effected by those leaders that were influenced and inspired by Eddie. He is without a doubt the most influential person in my organizational life and inspired me to reach heights of leadership and include others in our process. We have reached thousands through our programs which previously were not assisted because we were too busy

dealing with our organizational financial problems instead of our programs.

Part of what has kept me busy this month is our Children and Youth program and our VA& R program.

Last year I asked for a donation for our children and youth program and Kohls department store stepped up

and donated about 1,000 stuffed animals to us for Christmas distribution. They have now added an additional

3,000 animals to what we already have and I have worked with the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 139

(Unit 139) to distribute these items. We are in the process of that effort. We also received a request of items

for our military people in Walter Reed. They steeped up and fulfilled those requests. I have also spent time

assisting a fellow veteran in relocating after a home foreclosure and assisting them getting "back on their

feet".

I want you to know that once again we will have tickets for distribution for Nurses Training Scholarships.

Walt Poldolny is to be commended for his effort in getting this program running again for us. His effort will

reach out and touch some students that need that help and deal with one of our most important programs.

Please assist him in selling the tickets that he prepared. Sell them at your Posts, places of work, and doctors’

offices you go to. Remember, you are the "cream of the crop" to be part of our organization and should have

no problem in asking people to buy tickets for this worthwhile cause. Our goal is to sell all 1,000 tickets.

I want to thank Bob Brady for keeping us informed on the past illness of Carlton Hughes. We are pleased to

say he is home and doing well. I will have copies of the membership roster to hand out to different Posts that have many members that have not renewed their membership and ask you to personally contact them to pay those dues. Remember, we should want to belong and be part of our Voiture. If they truly no longer want to be part of us, then let them fall by the wayside. But let’s make sure they know we want them to continue to be proud to belong. I look forward to seeing you all at the Feb. 29th prom.

Jim Kampanos.

FLAGS FOR FIRST GRADERS

Jim Brock writes:

As I explained on the phone I am looking for donations for the 40&8 Flag for First Graders program

which I am presently conducting in Prince William County. In the Haymarket, Woodbridge, and

Dumfries I will be doing the presentation to approximately 2,500 students. Each one of those

students will be taking home the 40&8 tri-fold pamphlet to the parents which discusses respecting

our flag. Each tri-fold will be stamped with the address of the nearest Post and the supporting

Voiture. I am requesting a donation from your Voiture to help defray the cost of the flags. If funds

are voted on please make the check out to Voiture 1569 and mail it to: A. Dick George, 3384

Monarch Lane, Annandale, VA 22003.

Last year A.D. Carter gave a $400.00 donation to the program as a 380 Voyageur.
