LA SOCIETE DES 40 HOMMES ET 8 CHEVAUX DIRECTEUR NURSES TRAINING GRANDE DU VIRGINIA At our July Promenade in Colonial Heights I was elected Grand Nurses Training Directeur for 2008-2009. I have no reports at this time, but I will be attending the Promenade Nationale in Orlando Fl. in September and will pick up pins at that time. I hope we will have a good year on the pin sales and that all of the Voitures will give me an order. If we all work hard together for the Nurses I am sure we can have a large number for scholarships. This is my favorite program and I will work very hard and to the best of my ability to make this a very good year for the nurses. If there is anything I can do to help anyone with this program please e-mail me and I will do all that I can. Thank you for your support. From your Grand Directeur for Child Welfare Salute, fellow voyageurs. I applaud the ten Voiture Locales that submitted Grande du Virginia 2008 Child Welfare Reports this year (that’s one more than last year) and I applaud all the voyageurs that have been involved in helping children in one way or another throughout the year. The Grande exceeded last year’s total dollar value of assistance provided for child welfare by about $25,000. The total this year was $175,206.00. The total number of children we helped this year was 26,157, about 7,000 more than last year. These aresignificant improvements that show that we are striving to live up to La Societe motto: “No one stands as tall as the one who stoops to help a child”. The ten Voiture Locales that reported this year are: 53, 86, 380, 829, 934, 976, 977, 1114, 1530, and 1569. The Locale judged to be the “best of the best” this year is Locale 977 in Petersburg with $98,129.00 total dollar value of assistance provided for child welfare. Of note here is that Locale 977 donated 14,500 miles and 13,431 man hours towards this achievement. Honorable mention goes to the following Locales: Locale 1569 in Fairfax for their Flags for First Graders Program with 56 schools visited and 5,943 flags presented; Locale 380 in Bull Run for acquiring and distributing a significant number of toys to children and for their work with children at the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation; Locale 1530 for their significant contribution to the American Legion Boys State Program; and Locales 826 and 829 for their contributions to youth sports programs. All in all we did well, but I think we can do better. We do not have a Child Welfare Program at the Grande du Virginia level. We need a specific program we can identify with each year- a program we can be proud of – a program that would help us to achieve greater membership and support for child welfare. We could, for example, donate to a specific child welfare charity each year and add the amount donated to the Grande Chef’s Voiture Locale Child Welfare Report for his year in office. I recommend we have such a Grande program as our goal and will bring the subject up as new business when we next meet. I am also happy to report that we sold 120 Child Welfare Pins in 2008. I have the new 2009 pins to distribute. Call me at (703) 576-1582 and I will send you the new pins Mark Felske Grand Directeur Child Welfare emark@erols.com |
