Grand Cours’pondant Salut: I bring you greetings from the entire Grande du Virginie staff! Another year is right in front of us. I have a couple of agenda items that I feel necessary to share with you. So, short and sweet – or not so sweet National Chef de Gare Passé Club: I am the Virginie deputy. All current members are reminded that dues are due in July. The dues are $ 10.00 for renewals and $15.00 for first timers. The day you become Voiture Locale Chef you are eligible to join the club. Is there a reason why you are not a member of this club? New Officers: On the serious side: At the Grand Promenade in July, we elected a whole new or not so new slate of Officers. They have responsibilities and now so do you. You elected them and it’s your job to support them. It is not too early to think about what you would like to do next year. As in the military, if you opt for a job, do it, if you don’t do the job, you get passed over and do not move up. Maybe we need more cheese and less whine in the hospitality rooms. Memorial Day: Where will you be? On behalf of the Grand Chef and all the Voyageurs in Grand du Virginia, I would like to say “MERCI” to Past Big Chef Bob and Kathy Kaseman for handling this event for the past five years. Grand Chef Passe’ A. Dick George and Voiture Locale 1569 have now relieved the watch and have accepted this responsibility. To everyone, this is not a one man show. Remember, this is the only time of year that La Societe is publicly recognized by the government. Grand Cabane: Dames, I cannot say enough about the Grand Cabane. As every Grand Chef Passé knows, we cannot do without you. Without your continued support and the “damely push” some goals would never be achieved. While you are striving to support the Voiture don’t forget you have your own programs to support. Voyageurs (I know you are reading this), while the Dames are pushing, we should be digging deep. How many of you, paid attention to that fact that the Dames gave back as much as they collected? |

LOCOMOTION News: This year we have had very good responses to the “bills”. I have sent out renewal notices and would like to thank those of you who have responded in turn. The Grand Chef, Chef de Train (membership), Sous Chefs (Voiture happenings), Aumonier and the Directeurs are supposed to be writing articles for each issue of this magazine. Virginia Past Grand Chefs Club: Yup, you guessed right again. As of July 2005, I was appointed your Correspondant/Commissaire Intendant for that club. Dues are due at the Breakfast in July and they are $15.00. Cheminots: There are 15 Voiture Locales in the Grande and only 5 or 6 are playing. The Fall Cheminot / Homecoming is scheduled for Colonial Heights. It would be nice if someone stepped to the plate and volunteered to host the Winter or Spring Cheminot. Has the attendance at the Cheminot dwindled because so and so didn’t attend the Cheminot that I hosted, so I’m not going to the one they host? Is this the way to support your organization? |

Our Voyageurs have been ordered to report to the Supreme Commander of the Universe, and have now taken their place in the ranks of the unnumbered dead. As we pause to honor the memory of these Grande du Virginie Voyageurs our hearts are saddened by their passing. We are, however thankful for the privilege of having known them, and shall long remember our association with them. 17 July 2008 Joseph J.
