FROM THE NATIONAL SOUS DIRECTEUR NATIONAL BOX CAR ASSOCIATION AN APPEAL FOR SUPPORT The National Box Car Association (NBCA) finished it’s 008 fund raising year on July 31st, down over $10,000.00 from previous year’s collections. The Grande du Vifginie sold only 259 Crew Cards and 246 Associate Cards, which represented a mere 46.07% of the Goal. The Grande Cabane’s donation represented the majority of Associate Card Sales. As you know, the NBCA gives back all of the money collected each year to the various programs of La Societe and other worthy and needy organizations in the 40 & 8, such as: VAVS Wheel Chair Contest, Forty and Eighter Magazine, Founders Club, Children’s Party and Promenade Nationale, the host city VA Medical Center, HOBO Clowns, and many others. By supporting these programs, the NBCA is helping to keep dues from having to increase to cover the ever increasing costs. The sad fact is, we can’t give away what we don’t collect! If we don’t receive the support of every Voiture Locale, the NBCA can no longer fund these worthy programs in the manner to which they have been accustomed. I would be ideal if every Voyageur Militaire had a least one Crew Card in his wallet and an Associate Card for each family member, grand child, and pet! After all, they’re just a $1 each, and there’s no limit to the number you can buy. There are actually a couple of Voitures who purchase a Crew Card for every Voyageur in their Locale, and their continued support is truly appreciated. Grand Conducteur LET THE FUN AND GAMES BEGIN! Hope to see you all the first weekend in October. Voiture #86 will be hosting a Formal Wreck in Colonial Heights at the Fall Cheminot. The Poor Goofs will be reporting to the hospitality room at 6pm on Friday and they will be dealt with accordingly. (Ha-ha) Lets all jump in and show these toga wearing, wig wearing, cake eating (eating….hahaha!) wannabe 40 & 8’ers what we are all about. And maybe, just maybe they will join what I feel is one of the most worthy organizations they will ever join! Grande Directeur Americanism du Virginia LA SOCIETE DES 40 HOMMES ET 8 CHEVAUX Its time to start making plans for Flags For 1st Graders. I would hope that each Voiture local turns in BIG numbers this year. I have not participated in the program in the past but will jump in with both feet this year. I have heard amazing things that the children really enjoy this. If you think about it, this could help with recruitment and membership. These children go home and tell their parents.
